Complete control behind the wheel
Today's a sit in the studio with shades drawn, drinking and listening to Veronica Lipgloss or something else low and dirgey.

But I"m at the office, drinking coffee, listening to slow dirges instead.

I reached my monthly breaking point about 2 weeks early.

It's a confluence of things. Some I can exercise more control over, some far outside my sphere of influence and, still, others I'm simply sick to death of hearing about.

As if that's all not enough this stupid issue has false folios. I screw these up every, single, time.

Speaking of good news bad news. Time constraints have availed me of redesign responsibilities. Good news as I could not simultaneously publish a weekly, and redesign the entire magazine in the alloted three weeks. It's bad news because I wanted the responsibility. The very idea of a flag to colophon redesign made me uncomfortable and panicky. It's exactly the kind of challenge I need.

Strangely, if you go to Graeme Revell's Web site SPK isn't listed. That's despite the projects 20 odd year history. For instance Gold and Poison was released 8 years after the project formed and was something like their 10th LP. I suppose when you're writing soundtracks for The Crow and The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, you can afford to hide your activist past. I kid, I kid.

White Island is my favorite track off Gold & Poison. Listening to the newsreel going about how much the natives of Bikini Atoll are going to enjoy having their home vaporized is simply surreal.

Some things to think about while listening:
Castle Bravo, the largest nuclear explosion ever set off by the US was tested there. It was actually 2.5 times more powerful than anticipated. The sand of the atoll was pulverized so thoroughly that it took decades before life could regain a foothold. Many Marshall Islanders suffered miscarriages, and birth defects over the years due to the particularly dirty fallout. Bikini had to have the top 16 inches of top soil scraped away. Costing far more than the US governments compensation to the islanders.
